The establishment of the Cooperative is a highlight and one of the steps in the cycle of promoting sustainable conservation associated with the development of livelihoods for the community with the unremitting efforts between the members of the conservation team, the community, and the community. communities, local authorities and the CEGORN and partners during the period from 2012 to present.
Milestones
Since 2012, after discovering the Hatinh langur, the communities of Dong Hoa, Thach Hoa, Son Hoa, Thuan Hoa have voluntary activities to protect this precious animals included in the IUCN Red Book and the Vietnam Red Book. After a long process, with the support of the CEGORN and the support from the MRLG, in addition to improving the capacity of conservation and expanding the group’s presence, by 2020, the group was officially recognized when the decision was made to establish it by the Tuyen Hoa District Forest Protection Department. This is the first step for the members, the Langur keepers to have legitimacy to carry out conservation activities.
After the end of the MRLG support project (2022), Project: Humans, Primates, Plants: Co-Manage Biodiversity and Improve Livelihoods in Vietnam co-implemented by CEGORN, ICRAF and Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) in Tuyen Hoa district with the funding of Darwin – UK Initiative implemented from 2023 – 2025 has continued to be implemented in the area, with research, evaluation, and support activities with agroforestry models associated with conservation of Hatinh Langur species In particular, the nursery model is mainly indigenous plants, which helps to proactively source local seeds, and at the same time solves the needs of capacity development and livelihoods for members of the conservation group and the community is one of the support that CEGORN provides within the framework of the project.
On April 14, 2023, the members together established the Ha Tinh langur production, general trading and conservation cooperative. The cooperative has 16 business categories aimed at conservation and sustainable development such as: Supply of indigenous forest tree varieties, afforestation consulting, eco-tourism… According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tu – Leader of the Voluntary Community Group for the Conservation of the Hatinh Langur and Director of the Cooperative: “The support process of CEGORN and the projects is very important, especially at the moment, the fact that we were supported by the project to build a seedling nursery was one of the important things. Thanks to that, we got the first bricks in the journey of sustainable conservation. The establishment of cooperatives received the attention of local authorities at provincial and district levels, as well as local businesses.
