STUDY TOUR ON NATURE-BASED SOLUTIONS FOR ADAPTATION (NbSA) IN AGRICULTURAL MODELS IN HA TINH PROVINCE

On October 15–16, the Center for Highland Natural Resources Governance and Environment (CEGORN), in collaboration with the NbSA Project Management Board of the Quang Tri Provincial Farmers’ Union, successfully organized a study tour to learn from fruit cultivation models applying Nature-based Solutions for Adaptation (NbSA) in Ha Tinh Province.

Promoting sustainable agriculture and climate resilience

This field activity took place within the framework of Activity 3: “Enhancing the resilience of vulnerable smallholder farmers to climate change impacts through gender-responsive Nature-based Solutions for Adaptation (NbSA) in Quang Tri Province,” under the VN-SIPA II Project (funded by the Federal Government of Germany through GIZ).

Delegates were delighted by the yield and quality of the oranges in the orchards.

The tour was attended by representatives from CEGORN Center, GIZ, the Quang Tri Provincial Project Management Board, the Standing Committee of the Bo Trach Commune Farmers’ Union, and 22 outstanding local farmers. The strong participation of all stakeholders demonstrated close collaboration among the technical agency (CEGORN), the donor (GIZ), local authorities, and smallholder farmers.

Hands-on experience at exemplary ecological models

Throughout the two-day itinerary, CEGORN Center accompanied and supported the delegation in directly surveying and exchanging experiences at prominent ecological agricultural models in Ha Tinh Province:

At each destination, CEGORN technical specialists and orchard owners directly shared valuable practical lessons, focusing on: ecological farming techniques adapted to erratic weather, spatial garden layouts promoting biodiversity, natural pest and disaster risk management, organic waste composting, as well as market linkages and eco-friendly product branding.

The delegation listening to Mr. Thanh (Owner of Thanh Hien Orange Orchard) introduce the scale and cultivation process of his orange orchard.

Delegates were delighted by the yield and quality of the oranges in the orchards.

Paving the way for replication in Quang Tri

The study tour successfully fulfilled its objectives, delivering highly valuable practical knowledge. It not only enhanced awareness and practical capabilities for Farmers’ Union officers and households, but also demonstrated the clear economic and environmental benefits of NbSA approaches.
After two days of exploration, beyond expanding their knowledge, delegates experienced a shift in mindset, directly purchasing plant seedlings at Thanh Hien Orange Orchard to cultivate in their hometown:

In addition to fruit tree models, the delegation also visited a deer farming model.

This trip serves as an important foundation for CEGORN Center to continue accompanying local authorities and farmers in Quang Tri to flexibly and effectively apply NbSA solutions into practice, aiming toward ecological, sustainable, and climate-resilient agricultural development in the coming period.
